Description: I wanted this railing to not only be a strong and captivating visual statement, but simultaneously contra and complimentary to the straight lines of the architecture.
The lush organic surroundings spoke to me of creating something that appeared to have wandered straight out of the garden and organized itself into a natural visual funnel that drew the viewer into the clients home.

Description: Here, repetition of form sets up a distinctly lyrical rhythm. Within the framework of the bellying pickets are individual elements that give the piece a sense of playfulness. The vertical pickets are 'hot' split and forged out laterally, then formed over a jig. This creates the effect of a picture window in which the unique floral features exist.
In addition to the hand forged cap rail, brass accents form 'collars' that structurally connect elements, adding color and contrast to the forged steel.

Description: The fluid quality of steel is apparent in the vertical pickets that form this interior balustrade. Using special chisels, lines were first incised along the length of the heated 3/4" square bar, then twisted in alternating directions to produce the undulating motion.
